South Carolina poll: Cruz gaining on Trump
It’s a drastic shift from the approach he took at the start of his campaign hinting at how precarious his fortunes have become.
The Republican campaign for SC turned deeply personal on the eve of Saturday’s high-stakes presidential primary, as NY businessman Donald Trump eyed a delegate sweep and his Republican rivals jockeyed for a southern surprise. He said the ad “criticizes Trump for jumping in and telling SC what to do”, which he said showed “arrogance” and a “lack of empathy”.
“We are here to win”, Mr Sanders declared on Friday during a rally in sparsely populated Elko, Nevada.
Haley said she backed Rubio because she wanted a “candidate who will bring” a conscience “back to Republicans”. “It’s like an interstate somewhere, you go just straight and you can’t do anything about it”, he groused earlier in the speech to roughly 100 people packed into a side room at a local soul food restaurant.
Bush also lists dozens of admirals, generals and Medal of Honor recipients who have endorsed him.
TRUMP: “Respect whatever it is that you have to respect, because it was a point in time, and put it in a museum”.
“Cruz has proven that he is willing to do or say anything to get elected”. “But I am my own man and my views are shaped by my own thinking and own experiences”.
Almost two-thirds of registered Republican voters say Trump represents their positions on the issues very or somewhat well, putting him at the top of the field on that measure.
Flashes of irritation kept breaking through Bush’s upbeat demeanor in the final days on the campaign trail in SC. But the 43rd president may not have done enough to rescue his brother Jeb, who is struggling to gain traction.
But the following day, Bush was ridiculed for posting a picture on Twitter of a handgun, inscribed with his name and given to him by a manufacturer in Columbia he visited.
Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush are fighting to establish themselves as credible alternatives to Mr Trump and Mr Cruz, candidates some Republican leaders believe are unelectable in November. While neither Bush nor Rubio expects to win SC, they’re battling to finish ahead of one another – with the loser in that contest likely to face tough questions about his long-term viability. In Summerville, his clip-on microphone didn’t work.
The Bush team dismissed the complaints.
Cruz, the son of a preacher, was first to pursue the Christian conservative vote in SC.
“Millions of Americans are angry and frustrated with politicians, especially those who come to SC and they know the song and dance and they’re saying they are one of us and when they go back to Washington they are voting for legal abortions and same-sex marriage”. Sara Watts, center, and other supporters cheer for Democratic presidential candidate Sen.
The night before the crucial South Carolina Republican Primary, Texas Senator Ted Cruz says the key to winning is all about the grass roots.
The Palmetto Poll comes out the day before South Carolina’s “First in the South” GOP Presidential preference primary. “And then we have to have the resources to stay in the game”. Marco Rubio and Texas Sen. “We are going to get to Pennsylvania, so were going everywhere it’s a national campaign”, said Kasich Friday.
“I’m not seeing a lot of movement there (for Bush)”.
