Kesha goes to court in NYC over clash with producer Dr. Luke
Justice Shirley Kornreich took Sony’s side in the dispute, deciding that the record company would be harmed if Kesha didn’t deliver the six albums she’s contracted for, the New York Daily News reported.
The troubled pop singer – who turns 29 next month – first debuted her Saturn ink in a December 15 Instagram, and the needle has become a growing obsession throughout her legal woes against Sony and producer Dr. Luke.
“I can not work with this monster”, Kesha said in a sworn statement in August in which she accused Dr Luke of raping her a decade ago after giving her a pill that knocked her out.
Kesha says in the suit that she developed bulimia after Dr. Luke regularly disparaged her weight, calling her a “fat f****** refrigerator”.
A Manhattan Supreme Court judge denied a preliminary injunction to cancel her contracts and prevent Sony from forcing her to work with Dr Luke, aka Lukasz Gottwald, the Hollywood Reporter reports.
Dr. Luke denied the allegations and countersued, claiming Kesha’s lawsuit qualified as extortion and a breach of contract.
Fans of the singer subsequently launched a petition – which has since amassed nearly 140,000 signatures-asking Sony to release her from a contract.
The singer, who broke down in court as the decision was announced, is now locked in a legal battle with her former producer Dr Luke – who she claims emotionally and psychologically abused her for years. The ruling today concerned an injunction she filed in September of 2015 requesting that she be allowed to record music with other producers.
Kesha’s lawyer had asked a judge to bar enforcement of the contract.
Soto, who speaks out as a sexual assault suspect herself, says the judge’s ruling sends the wrong message to rape victims.
However, when the 22-year-old “Focus” singer guested recently on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, she disclosed that there are now discussions going on in the recording company whether to stick with the title of “Moonlight” or change it to something different.
Kesha signed with Dr Luke at the age of 18, and in her lawsuit said he made her snort a substance then to get on a plan.
