Need a tissue? School mocks ‘whiners’ in email to parents
The “Hurt Feelings Report”, an Internet meme that sarcastically documents complaints from aggrieved individuals, was accidently sent through email to parents, which was supposed to be about activities on “Exercise Your Brain” – an upcoming school event.
The sheet was sent as an email attachment to parents whose children attend Lombardy Elementary School in Wilmington.
The one-page document is similar to a bullying report “to assist whiners in documenting hurt feelings”.
The document includes questions like “Do you require a tissue for tears?” and “Is there permanent feeling damage?”
“This was an embarrassing mistake, but it was just that – a mistake”, Andrianopoulous wrote. “It should not have happened, and we apologize for the error”, Alexis Andrianopoulos told the News Journal.
Andrianopoulos said the form didn’t come from the school or the school district.
Then, under the incident report section, the form asks for “The name of person who hurt your pansy ass feelings”.
“If the children didn’t see it, what is the problem?” one man said as he picked up his child from the school.
Anna Mendez, director of the California-based organization National Association of People Against Bullying, said the district should consider strengthening its anti-bullying education and counseling programs in light of the mistake, Delaware Online reported. “Good that they apologised, but I don’t think it means they don’t care about the kids”.
Schools all over the states have taken measures to decrease bullying over the past years and the Obama administration held the first White House Conference on Bullying Prevention in 2011. And while some parents saw it as “dumb prank”, others thought it mocked students who are bullied.
Many parents appear to have taken the accident in stride. The school spokesperson told NBC10 that the incident didn’t reflect the views of those who work in the school.
