Terrorist task force alerted of NYPD shooting
Two NYPD officers were wounded in a shootout with a New Jersey man in Brooklyn early Saturday morning, authorities say.
Two housing officers heard a shot at around 3:20 a.m. near Malcolm X Boulevard and Quincy Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Reddin underwent surgery at Kings County Hospital and was in stable condition while Yurkiw was released after receiving treatment for a blunt force injury.
Investigators say the incident began when officers responded to a report of possible shots fired… Both officers were taken to the hospital and are expected to surprise, a police spokesman told the Post. Funes, 34, was in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds, Police Commissioner William Bratton said. Officials said the other shooting victim was transported to Brookdale Hospital.
De Blasio said that he spent time in the hospitial with one of the officers, a 9-year veteran, who spoke of pride in getting a gun off of the street. Funes pointed a gun at them, then fled in a vehicle, according to police. Officers Diara Cruz and Patrick Espeut were shot and wounded on patrol in a public housing stairwell by a gunman who killed himself soon after, police said.
“The bullet did not penetrate his vest”, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said. The suspect got out and opened fire on the vehicle, and the two officers were struck, according to sources.
NYPD Officer Andrew Yurkiw was shot in the Saturday gunfight. Shots were fired, with the suspect being hit numerous times. At the corner of Lexington Ave and Malcolm X Boulevard, the suspect, traveling the wrong way, rammed a responding marked patrol auto from the 83 Precinct. There was no word on his condition. The latest shooting follows a string of encounters that left four other NYPD officers dead since December 2014.
