Angels acquire veteran outfielders David DeJesus and David Murphy
DeJesus and Murphy join an Angels leftfielder platoon that also includes Shane Victorino, whom Los Angeles acquired in a trade with the Boston Red Sox on Monday.
Tuesday’s trade deadline action continued with the Los Angeles Angels front office grabbing outfield help in David Murphy and David DeJesus in two separate but nearly simultaneous transactions.
In return for DeJesus, the Rays will receive right-handed pitcher Eduar Lopez.
There had been some expectation the Angels would attempt more of a blockbuster move in left by using starting pitching depth, notably Matt Shoemaker or C.J.
The Murphy trade had not been officially announced 45 minutes before the game but was confirmed by a person familiar with the deal but not authorized to discuss it publicly.
The 35-year-old DeJesus, 35, is batting.
He has started 65 games this season with 44 in left field, 20 at designated hitter and one in right field. 375 slugging percentage over 82 games. Murphy, 33, is hitting.296/.344/.437 with five home runs. He has an option for $7M for next season. 296 with five home runs in 206 at-bats with the Indians this season and is a career.
Stamets, 23, spent 62 games with the Angels’ Double AA Arkansas affiliate this season. Kim, along with David’s kids, live in Los Angeles.
Lopez was signed by the Angels as a free agent in 2012, and has been ranked by Baseball America as a Top 30 prospect in the Angels system following each of the last three seasons (2012-14).
