Two NYPD officers were shot early Saturday in Brooklyn, according to sources.
Police said both injured officers – who were in street clothes – are in stable condition and are expected to recover.
“The bottom line today: Thank God, these officers will be making a full recovery”, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said during a press conference, according to the New York Daily News.
The injured officers were the third and fourth NY policemen shot and wounded while on duty during the past month. The officers were in an unmarked police auto. Investigators are looking into his ties to other people suspected of being radicalized, a law enforcement official said.
At that point officers fired at the armed suspect, striking him several times.
Funes’s record also includes 11 arrests in IL between 1996 and 2000. The investigation into the police-involved shooting incident ongoing.
Yurkiw was shot in his bulletproof vest – 27 years after a vest saved his father, Officer Paul Yurkiw. More than 30 shots were fired by six NYPD officers. Yurkiw, 29, has been an officer for three years.
