Hillary Beats Out Bernie In Nevada
With about 70 percent reporting, Clinton has 52.2 percent of the vote, and Bernie Sanders has 47.7 percent.
But after a not-amazing night, perhaps Sanders and his supporters can take heart that at least they won the vote of Nevada Peace Corps volunteers.
“No matter what racial background you have, no matter what preference you have for anything, Nevada has it”, said Terry Beringer, a Clinton volunteer from Reno. An email from his campaign indicates that Sanders may already be looking past next weekend’s SC primary, focusing instead on a big showing in the Super Tuesday contests when 12 states will hold primaries. White non-college graduates gave more support to Sanders, while non-white non-college graduates were more likely to support Clinton, according to data gathered by NBC news.
This win is expected to ensure that Clinton is in a stronger position heading into SC, whose Democratic primary is next weekend. Sanders or his supporters to hang their heads over. About 39 percent of Nevada voters are voters of color. As Nevada democrats gathered to vote in their caucuses… the polls had narrowed. In Las Vegas, the state’s most populated city, several caucus goers included casino hotel workers who were forced to balance their work schedule and voting efforts.
Across the aisle, Republicans are holding their presidential primary tonight in SC. Among those wanting a candidate who is “honest and trustworthy”, Sanders got 85 percent.
Though Sanders touted his high levels of support among young voters – the senator won voters under 45 by an overwhelmingly large margin – his loss demonstrated that he still has not made the gains with minority voters he needs to beat Clinton.
“Taking on the establishment – whether it is the financial establishment, whether it is the political establishment, whether it is the media establishment – is not easy”, he said.
There’s also a wave of newcomers in the caucuses: Two-thirds say it’s their first time attending a Nevada Democratic presidential caucus. A Fox News entrance poll showed that a whopping 75 percent of independents back Sanders, while just 20 percent preferred Clinton.
