Search Intensifies For Cooper Nemeth
Deputy chief Danny Smyth said at a news conference that the property is not where investigators believe Nemeth was killed.
Police said they do not believe there was any gang involvement but they do believe it was drug related.
Bell-Wright was arrested early Sunday morning after the body was discovered. “Based on the preliminary examinations of the injuries on Cooper’s body, investigators believe he was murdered”, said Smyth.
House-owner Roshan Posthumulla and his wife discovered Cooper’s body in the backyard of the house and said that someone dragged the body in the bin after breaking through the fence.
“This is not the outcome that anyone wanted, and our hearts go out to the Nemeth family while they deal with the loss of their son”, he said.
Bayne is one street away from Amelia Crescent, where Nemeth was at a party hours before he was last seen.
He was reported missing on February 14 and search efforts have taken place every day since then.
Smyth confirmed the search warrant executed at the residence at nearby 15 Treger Bay produced forensic evidence as well as a vehicle that is believed to be connected to the homicide and led to the arrest of Bell-Wright. Bell-Wright was taken into custody and arrested in the Maples Sunday morning.
Police now allege that Bell-Wright killed Nemeth sometime after leaving the party, and later moved the body onto the property in the Valley Gardens neighbourhood.
Family and friends have been searching North East Winnipeg, as well as the downtown area for the past 5 days for Nemeth who has been without medication to treat ADHD.
Details on the second degree murder charge are not available at this time.
