1 dead, another injured in Golden avalanche

Police said a 64-year-old man from Canmore, Alta., was flown to Calgary by helicopter in critical condition, while a 58-year-old woman from Calgary was transported by helicopter to Kamloops with serious injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening.

Avalanche Canada issued a warning for B.C.’s Central and Southern Interior Ranges from Friday, February 19 to Monday, February 22, recommending “backcountry users avoid large slopes in the alpine and at treeline, especially slopes that have not been previously heavily ridden”.
He said the Canadian Avalanche Centre does its best to warn people of poor conditions.
He said this layer has fail a “number of times” over the past few days, resulting in some close calls. “And with the amount of snow that’s on top of it we could be seeing some very large and risky avalanches”.
