Deadpool Fans Petition ‘Saturday Night Live’ for Superhero to Host
However, Ryan Reynolds has cast doubt on it ever coming to fruition as he’s released “long-lost” backstage audio of Deadpool blowing his shot at the dream gig. Not to mention, depending on the musical guest, how awesome would it be to have some Deadpool interpretive dancing while the musical guest was playing? You know, as long as “SNL” doesn’t try to play like old iPhones have anything on Deadpool… because they don’t.
“Let’s face is SNL is getting a bit stale, this would be flawless for the adult audience, and I think ratings would go through the roof”.
In the end, Reynolds had the best idea of how to work him in: “Double Deadpool”, featuring both actors as the wisecracking super-assassin.
“I watched it, I loved it, I couldn’t help but feel it’s missing something… a sidekick”, The Late Late Show host admitted to Reynolds on Thursday (February 18).
And mind you, the fans don’t simply want Ryan Reynolds as a host to perform a parody Deadpool sketch. Probably not. Even though SNL has been hosted by fictional characters before, including Paul Reubens as Pee Wee Herman and Don Novello as Father Guido Sarducci, the character of Deadpool still poses some logistical problems. Maybe it would be a problem, maybe it wouldn’t be, but the humor and personality of Deadpool would be an absolutely flawless fit for Saturday Night Live.
Deadpool is in theaters now.
“If you don’t do this, Marvel will. They’ve made that quite clear”, James Corden says of a lumpy Potato Man, assuring Reynolds that “Matthew Marvel” himself gave the OK. Fans can’t get enough Deadpool.
It’s not yet known whether or not the studio and producers agree with this viewpoint, but we shall soon see. In fact, a Change.org petition seeking 35,000 signatures has already amassed over 26,000 in hopes of having the character host.
