Olly Murs has quit presenting The X Factor
“This was an incredibly hard decision to make and one I didn’t take lightly as I’ve really enjoyed co-hosting The X Factor”, Murs told The Sun UK.
The 31-year-old pop star fronted the talent show alongside Caroline Flack – whose position also hangs in the balance – during the last series, but is rumoured to be on the cusp of leaving the coveted role.
So far, it’s been reported that Nick Grimshaw has quit the judging panel, and that Caroline Flack has been sacked from her 2015 role as co-presenter of the show, but that hasn’t been officially confirmed.
“They come as a package”.
‘He’s still in talks with management and has been for a couple weeks about whether he continues as he’s working on a new album, ‘ commented Olly’s rep.
The singer said he had chosen not to return to the ITV show later this year in order to dedicate more time to his music.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the programme denied that Olly and Caroline’s fate has already been decided.
In other news, rumour has is that One D’s Louis Tomlinson might take over from Nick Grimshaw as the new judge, but will it be a yes from Simon?
Simon Cowell added to the newspaper: “It was fantastic having Olly on The X Factor last year and now this year he has to concentrate on his new album”.
A show source told the publication: “No decision has been made about who ill be the presenter or co-presenters”. Olly shot to fame on the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009, finishing runner-up to Joe McElderry.
According to The Sun, it’s because of “negative feedback” for her co-presenting gig with Olly Murs.
MailOnline has contacted a representative for Olly Murs and is awaiting comment.
