Alcatel enters high-smartphone market with Idol 4, Idol 4S
The party, however, isn’t over yet. “It’s the ultimate tailor-made smartphone because customization is always a top priority for us”, said CW Park, Chief Designer and General Manager of Global Design Center at Alcatel. This is also the first time that a phone manufacturer has packaged a device within something like a VR headset, which is pretty awesome itself. And here, the Alcatel POP 4, POP 4+, and POP 4S aim to please.
Underneath the hood, the phone is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8976 Snapdragon 652 processor, housing four Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage and Adreno 510 GPU. It seeks to offer the features and technology their customers need, but keep surprising the users with great experiences. These options combined with the sleek-looking and slim chassis makes the POP 4 an attractive handset to use. At least as far as these three mid-tier devices are concerned. It features a 5.2 inched screen, and comes out with a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. RAM is now a full 2 GB though internal storage is still capped at 16 GB. On the back, there’s a 13MP camera along with an 8MP front-facing module with flash. The secondary “selfies” camera, embed on the front, comes with a 8MP sensor. As with the variants mentioned above, this will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and should give you 4G LTE data connectivity.
In terms of design, the Alcatel POP 4 series might not exactly wow, but one of the advantages of a less than premium build is customization.
Aimed at university students, young adults, young professionals and young parents, the brand’s new line-up being launched a Mobile World Congress offers an array of choices targeting these markets, including customisable covers, DJ mix software, amped-up audio systems and the innovative virtual reality experience. Both devices run Android Marshmallow, but the vast majority of their hardware is different. “Because both quality and price are important to millennials, we feel that Alcatel – with our DNA of making innovation accessible to everyone – is uniquely in tune with their needs”. The company is also changing their logo as a part of this rebranding strategy. Notably, Alcatel has dropped its OneTouch name for smartphone branding and has opt for the Alcatel branding instead.
