Islamabad United reaches final of PSL
The two Islamabad United players will be replacing Babar Azam and Ruman Raees for the tournament.
Sharjeel scored the very first century of the PSL helping his side Islamabad United to book a place in the final against Quetta Gladiators with a comprehensive 50 run win against Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday night. Their decision to field was not backed up by the bowlers as the Islamabad United opening batsmen Dwayne Smith (19) and Khan (117) piled on a 108-run opening stand in 13.1 overs.
With a willing ally in Latif, Khan continued his explosive hitting and registered the first ever hundred in the PSL with a six over long-off off the bowling of Shahid Afridi.
Khan was run out in the final over and Islamabad United went on to post 176 for three in their 20 overs.
The star-studded HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to conclude on a high note as all the seats for the February 23 final in Dubai are already sold for the 25,000-capacity stadium, according to league chairman Najam Sethi. Shaun Tait (2-35) got the breakthrough in the 14th over when he struck twice in two balls to dismiss Smith and Brad Haddin (0). Apart from Kamran Akmal (45) none of the top order batsman made a mark as Samuel Badree and Imran Khalid spun a web around them.
Khan reached his century from 50 balls with a straight six off Afridi but could only manage 17 more runs off the next 12 balls he faced before eventually running himself out in a bid to retain the strike with two deliveries remaining in the innings.
