Antonio Cromartie released by Jets to clear salary-cap space
The Jets have cut Antonio Cromartie again.
The New York Jets cut veteran cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
Pro Football Focus ranked Cromartie, 31, No. 103 out of 118 cornerbacks last season.
Cromartie signed a 4 year, 32 million dollar contract before the season started, but it was known that he most likely would not play out the whole contract, because of his age and the unguaranteed nature of the contract. He was due $8 million next season.
Cromartie shouldn’t struggle to find work as we enter the new league year, but it will be interesting to see what type of market he commands.
With Cromartie’s big contract off the books, the Jets could turn to Marcus Williams to play opposite Darrelle Revis going forward.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Jets are not against bringing back Cromartie, who was released Monday in a widely expected money-saving move. He was also the Jets’ leading kick returner. You guys are the best fans ever and thank you for sticking next to me through my tough times last season you rock. It was his second tour of duty with the Jets after being released following the 2013 season by then-general manager John Idzik.
Cromartie signed a one-year deal with Arizona and played in another Pro Bowl while rejuvenating his career in Bowles’ defense.
