Tata renames its hatchback Zica as TIAGO
The company, through the crowdsourcing move – #Fantastico Name Hunt – had invited netizens to participate to name the vehicle.
India’s biggest carmaker Tata Motors announced Monday it had rechristened its new hatchback Tiago, changing it from the initial “Zica” after an outbreak of the identical-sounding Zika virus.
Finally Tata Motors chose three names- Civet, Adore and Tiago-and from 37,000 plus names received in the contest run on social media, called for voting on the three names.
Now that the company has decided on the new name, the launch of the Tata Tiago may happen within the next one month.
Taking forward the spirit of innovation, the TIAGO, designed for young auto buyers, exudes cutting edge design, technology and driving dynamics to address a new customer segment for Tata Motors with new benchmarks and exciting product experience.
Tata’s name hunt campaign came to an end, as the manufacturer has finalized ‘Tiago’ as the official moniker for its latest hatchback, which was earlier named Zica.
Tata Motors has re-branded the Zica to Tata Tiago.
The new model was originally due to launch in January, but got delayed just before the World Health Organization declared the Zika virus emergency. The virus is already present in more than 20 countries and is estimated that up to 4 million people across the Americas would be infected with the virus in the next year.
