NYPD officers accused of punching suspect during arrest
Several New York police officers have brutally beaten a man they were holding on the floor during his arrest in a Brooklyn store, a YouTube video shows.
Video shows the man, Alando Brissett, 25, held to the floor by NYPD when at least two of the officers begin punching him in the back. A crowd of customers who gathered at the scene were demanding that the officers stop. A video has surfaced that appears to show police punching and kicking a man during an arrest at Target. The video was shot by a bystander and was posted to YouTube Sunday.
“One person, 50 police”, one man yells as between 15 to 20 more officers walk into the store.
The man who took the video told the Daily News he was shocked at the force that was used against Brissett.
Even with the explanation, Williams and Bichotte said there are several questions including whether are not the man was mentally or emotionally disturbed and if the use of force reasonable.
Brissett’s grandmother tells NBC 4 New York that he had gone to the Target to return bottles and had gotten into an argument with an employee and then refused to leave.
‘He’s not a bad kid, he’s not a rude kid, ‘ she said, adding that he often does her laundry without being asked.
The Daily News reports that a Target employee called police after the man displayed “concerning behavior” in the store.
‘It hurts me, ‘ she said of the videotaped arrest scene. You can not harm my grandson. He’s not a criminal.’.
Williams and Bichotte are planning to send a letter to the NYPD and Target about the incident.
Brissett was hit with a slew of charges including disorderly conduct, trespassing, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest and was arraigned on Sunday.
