Atlanta closed the third quarter on a 28-6 run and grabbed the lead briefly early in the fourth. However, the Warriors responded with a 17-4 run that put the game away.NOTES: The Warriors signed C Anderson Varejao and released F Jason Thompson.
Golden State has three more games on its road trip. He and Curry combined for 10 three-point baskets. While Atlanta did end up losing this game, this was Horford’s best performance in well over a month for the Hawks, as he was dominant. The former second round pick has made a living proving doubters wrong, and he got the post-All-Star break portion of his season off to a similar note as the one that preceded it. In the two games last week, Green posted averages of 16.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 9.0 assists and notched his league-leading 11th triple-double of the season against the Clippers on Saturday.
“The third quarter is something we can hopefully build off of”, said Atlanta coach Mike Budenholzer, whose team had the top record in the Eastern Conference a year ago but has slipped all the way to sixth this season. Forward Harrison Barnes added 14 points and matched his season high with three 3-point baskets.
Indeed, a second straight championship is the only way to make this a truly successful season, but the pursuit of Chicago’s record – accomplished during the height of Michael Jordan’s six-titles-in-eight-years dynasty – has provided quite an intriguing side plot to the regular season. Bogut then hit a cutting Thompson with a pass for a layup.
“We’re staying in the moment”, Curry said.
The Toronto Raptors were big winners over the New York Knicks, posting a dominant 122-95 victory away from home, the Milwaukee Bucks edged the Los Angeles Lakers 108-101 and the Minnesota Timberwolves pipped the Boston Celtics 124-122.
Warriors: C Andrew Bogut (R Achilles strain), listed as questionable, was declared available prior to tipoff and inserted into the starting lineup. They’ve lost five of their last six with four of those losses at home. Up next: Atlanta hosts Chicago on Friday night.
The Warriors return to action Wednesday in Miami, where they face the Heat at American Airlines Arena.
