Parthiv named as cover for injured Dhoni in Asia Cup
India’s limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni got a trifle irritated at a press conference here on Sunday and asked a reporter not to keep repeating questions on his retirement. The 34-year-old is fit as always, and has remained hungry for success. “Yes, there are moments when you feel a little down but I never thought of quitting”, he said. It’s not that because you have the freedom of asking questions, you will ask every kind of question that comes to your mind. “It’s a world today where everything is covered by media”, he implored.
“100 percent questions will be raised (if we don’t do well)”. Asked if the 2007 World T20-winning skipper is anxious about the same, Dhoni promptly replied: “It is a worry in the 50-over format”.
“He has to prove his fitness and if he isn’t fit then we have replacements waiting”. I don’t think I can not really stop people from asking the questions. The Indian captain may have gone exhausted of answering the same question repetitively, but the media has not stopped hounding Dhoni.
The consumer electronics company Micromax Informatics has bagged the title sponsorship rights for the cricket tournament T-20 Asia Cup 2016, which will be held in Bangladesh from February 24-March 6, 2016. Only down, so far, not out, but Parthiv Patel has been called up in case Dhoni were to fail to make it, giving the Gujarat wicketkeeper-batsman a chance to return to the India fold after more than four years.
“We have played T20s in Australia and the at home in recent times”.
“In this format you have to take away the price tag from your wicket”. It’s always easier to switch from T20 to Test format than from Test to T20. “The momentum is good so it is important that we keep that momentum going”, he said. He did recall that tour as having happened “eight months ago”, but refused to remember much about it citing, “Since in our country, public memory is short, I have also made it a habit to remember things only for 10 days”. But it was only obvious that Shastri would get asked about exorcising the demons from past year, more so with India set to take on Bangladesh in the tournament opener on Wednesday. “I am in T20 mode already and am willing to do whatever is required for the team”, the southpaw signed off. “Sometimes we have to leave someone, so that overall balance of the team remains intact”. When we our playing good cricket, it is important to keep that habit. If we win the World T20 very comfortably, than questions will be asked whether we have peaked too early. Ultimately, you have to do well in the field. There is no change in my views or tactics. “It’s definitely the same”.
What is “champion’s luck”? Yes, luck is definitely a factor. It may be the toss. It may be the toss, the rain and stuff like that…
“MS is a pillar for us in the middle-order”. Of course if we have a partnership where everyone is doing well till 18th or 19th over than I can promote myself. The ICC World Twenty20 starts from March 8 and will conclude on April 3.
