Rounding up the Results in SC and Nevada
Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio received boosts Monday in his drive to become the mainstream Republican alternative to front-runner Donald Trump, with a string of high-profile endorsements and missteps by rival Ted Cruz’s campaign.
In a normal election year we’d say someone who won the New Hampshire primaries by a yuuuuge margin and the SC primary by 10 points is the prohibitive front-runner. The bold move? Openly offering John Kasich “the vice presidential slot in exchange for OH governor’s support”. And there is Sen.
“Now that my good friend Jeb Bush is no longer running, I’m supporting Rubio”, Dole told ABC on Monday.
Cruz, who was campaigning in Nevada for the state’s caucuses on Tuesday, fired Tyler the next day.
Trump and Clinton will be bringing their delegates momentum into Super Tuesday/SEC Primary on March 1.
Donors shift to Rubio: Jeb Bush’s departure from the Republican presidential race appears to be benefiting Marco Rubio, USA Today writes. “Could they get their heads around Trump being the nominee?”
Bush hasn’t formally endorsed a Republican since suspending his campaign, but “given the well-known antipathy between Rubio and Bush”, it’s possible that his supporters could go to Kasich, said Jeanne Zaino, a professor of campaign management at New York University, according to a report on KLEW-TV. “It’s getting down to three people”.
Rubio spokesman Alex Conant called Cruz a “candidate willing to do or say anything to get elected” and urged him to apologize. But Sanders’ lead over Clinton among independents who lean Democratic is equally huge, 65 percent to 25 percent.
So far, Trump has 67 delegates. A strong performance here will help Clinton to build a firewall against Sanders going into Super Tuesday. Which GOP candidate is most electable in the general election?
Their answer: 57 percent said President Barack Obama should nominate a new justice now, while 35 percent said it should be left to the next president to do the nominating. One thing though: if you’re going to win the primary, at some point you need to start winning primaries.
“Donald Trump wants to keep big government in charge”, said Cruz in a 30-second ad. “That’s ridiculous”.
The former USA secretary of state said on CNN: “I think there’s an underlying question that maybe is really in the back of people’s minds and that is, you know, is she in it for us or is she in it for herself?”
