World’s first smartphone with 6GB RAM to be unveiled on March 1
Vivo is leaving no stones unturned to publicise the massive RAM in its Xplay 5.
The inclusion of 6GB RAM should not come as a surprise to as Samsung in September past year already started producing 6GB LPDDR4 RAM for smartphones and tablets.
It was earlier reported that Huawei would launch its P9 with 6GB RAM to take the honours of being world’s first 6GB smartphone. There are still tons of devices launching with 3GB of RAM.
Making their announcement on their Weibo page, Vivo is set to officially unveil the XPlay 5 on March 1 in Beijing.
Currently, only a small number of high-end smartphones house 4GB RAM, as it was believed that 4GB of RAM would become the standard norm for most handsets in 2016. Is the 6GB RAM overkill or will it be a victor for Vivo? In spite of Vivo putting out a lot of teasers about the XPlay 5 before its release, it has not stopped people from leaking information about the device.
The Xplay 5 will sport a dual-edge quad-HD display, and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset. However, since the manufacturer is yet to confirm this aspect of the upcoming phone, it should be considered to be a speculation. Samsung also announced recently that it will put 6GB mobile RAM in mass production soon.
While it is clear that the phone will run on Android operating system, it will be interesting to watch whether the phone sports a Lollipop or Marshmallow platform. Other leaks have said that Vivo XPlay 5 will have a 6-inch display, 16MP rear camera, 8MP front camera and 4,300mAh battery. Considering that the Chinese tech firm has revealed the key features of the device via teasers, it is expected that most of these features will be confirmed before the official release of the phone.
