Yovani Gallardo: Fails physical Tuesday
Fowler is the second significant agreement of the week for the Orioles, who also agreed to sign Yovani Gallardo to the exact same contract (3 years, $35 million) on Saturday. The team has not yet confirmed the signing.
The Orioles reportedly bolstered their lineup Tuesday by agreeing to terms with free-agent outfielder Dexter Fowler. The deal is pending a physical, which history suggests is far from a formality for players signing with Baltimore. Because both Gallardo and Fowler declined qualifying offers in November, both signings cost Baltimore a draft pick. The Orioles have not commented publicly on Gallardo’s status but are following up on a few things in his physical.
Becoming one of the most effective hitters in the top spot in the batting order by season’s end, Fowler is a switch-hitter that will presumably find himself in right field for the Orioles come Opening Day. He also owns a career.
It took longer than expected but former Chicago Cubs center fielder Dexter Fowler has finally found a new home.
The Cubs, who lost their first two picks after signing pitcher John Lackey and outfielder Jason Heyward to free agent contracts, will receive a compensation pick in the 2016 draft once Fowler’s signing becomes official.
Fowler will greatly help the Orioles need for a better on base percentage as he brings with him a career.
