Beckham: Premier League needs ‘characters like Mourinho’
Jose Mourinho will reportedly earn £15.6million-a-year at Manchester United, with an extra £3.9m bonus if he leads them to the Premier League title.
United are now fifth in the Premier League table but are closer to mid-table than they are to the top four, which means their best chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League competition is by overturning a 2-1 deficit to Midtjylland on Thursday and winning the Europa League outright.
The former Chelsea manager has been heavily linked with becoming the next manager of Man Utd, amidst rumours that Louis Van Gaal could lose his job soon.
Our article earlier this month suggested it was time United sold their soul and danced with the devil by appointing Mourinho such has been their fall from grace this season.
“When the manager left, that was always going to be massive, but you also lost players like Keano, like Scholesy – and Giggsy has stopped playing”.
“I hope he [Mourinho] comes back to the Premier League very soon”.
Will we see Mourinho in the Premier League soon?
The 40-year-old Old Traffor legend told talkSPORT: “As a Man United fan, I always hoped we wouldn’t go through a slump, but it was inevitable”.
“You’ve lost such great characters through the team”.
Sky Sports even note that “several friends” in Setubal have talked-up Mourinho’s move to Manchester United. They are all integral parts of the club.
Beckham still thinks Van Gaal can have a successful season if he can win a trophy, something that is expected at a club of United’s stature. They are one of the biggest clubs, if not the biggest club in the world and you have to keep that reputation.
Mourinho has won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and three League Cups during his two spells in England.
“He [Van Gaal] is manager of Manchester United so there is always going to be speculation, always going to be criticism”, said Beckham.
