Cowboys release RB Ryan Williams
After about a year, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to part ways with running back Ryan Williams. He will join a group led by Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar.
The Cowboys are not actively pursuing free-agent backs for the time being, as reported by a source.
Ray Rice wants to build his image back up.
If the Johnson-Cowboys rumors sound familiar, they should; CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora wrote earlier this month that several NFL executives brought up Dallas as a possible landing spot for Johnson. The Cowboys are interested in a more physical runner than Johnson, as said by a source. The latest reports have Chris Johnson as a potential target and despite a decline in numbers over the last couple of seasons, the 29-year-old believes he still has enough speed and talent to help a contender.
While it’s unclear at this point where @ChrisJohnson28 will play this year, one team his agent has been in contact with: the #Cowboys.
Johnson, a Gilmer native, had 21 100-yard rushing games and six 200-yard performances, both of which are tops all-time in SFA history.
Dallas also signed center Ronald Patrick while releasing linebacker Cameron Lawrence and tackle Ryan Miller.
Owner Jerry Jones said in May he thinks the Cowboys’ running game can be even better without Murray, who had 518 total touches last season including the playoffs.
Jones has been bothered by his hip for a while, and opted to have the surgery just before training camp started.
This marks the 27th season at the Cowboys helm for Jones.
