Pacific Rim 2 Is Back, But With A Major Change
Deadline is reporting that Legendary Pictures has found a director for the long-awaited Pacific Rim 2, but unfortunately, it’s not Guillermo del Toro.
I absolutely adore Pacific Rim, so I’m thrilled that there’s forward movement on the sequel, but losing del Toro is quite a blow. Del Toro’s creative process is one of the most immersive I’ve ever seen.
A third tweet read: “Now Pac Rim is a known property and we can expand big!”
Legendary Pictures has green lit a sequel to its 2013 robots-versus-monsters blockbuster Pacific Rim. Plus, given how much love del Toro has for the project, it would be extremely surprising if he didn’t remain very involved in the sequel. DeKnight has been hired to helm the film, using a script written by Jon Spaihts. It’ll be his feature film directorial debut.
No stranger to action, the director was responsible for Starz’s hit series Spartacus, not to mention he also served as EP on Marvel’s Daredevil.
Del Toro said, “We are positive that this is a great choice to take what was established and go beyond!” While this will be DeKnight’s first movie, he previously directed episodes of Angel, Smallville, Dollhouse and Daredevil – all of which are shows he wrote for.
When there’s more to report, we’ll be there, and until then, this is an exciting glimpse of the team they’re putting together this time around.
