A next-door neighbor says the family had lived in the home for about two years after moving from Oklahoma. James Graham said he was not close to his neighbors, but they chatted occasionally and never mentioned any problems.
“We had police officers holding fire hoses, trying to knock down the fire so other police officers could do their job”.
Yolanda Strayhand, who lives behind the burned home, said her elderly mother woke her up after hearing gunfire.
The initial call came from the people inside the home who said they were being shot at, Sgt. Crump said.
The four dead adults include the shooter, who was the brother or son of the victims and who apparently committed suicide after the murders, police reported. Police have not yet released the victims’ identities. Details about what happened are unclear.
Meanwhile, crews were working a first-alarm fire at the home as well.
Stanton called the scene an “unbelievable tragedy” and praised the first-responders.
It is too early in the investigation for the Arizona police to confirm with any certainty if the man identified as the victim’s brother was the killer.
The 12-year-old girl shot at the home was transported to an area hospital and was deemed to be in critical condition.

Phoenix firefighters managed to put out a second fire that flared up at the home by 7:30 a.m.
Police officers dressed in firefighter gear so they could get inside the house to search for the family.
