Brit Awards 2016: Adele Scores Nominations
You’ll be able to stream and download live performances from the night via Google Play Music straight after the BRITs.
Amy Winehouse has been nominated posthumously for a Brit Award, in the British female solo artist category alongside Adele, Jess, Florence Welch and Laura Marling.
Adele will also perform at the show, as will Rihanna, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd and Little Mix – who are bringing their mums to the ceremony.
And on the subject of avoiding unexpected glitches, the ceremony’s hosts Ant and Dec have said “capes have been banned, absolutely banned” this year, referring to Madonna’s shocking fall on stage at last year’s awards.
Adele, whose third album 25 has sold 2.73m copies in the United Kingdom, looks set to dominate the awards, with further nominations for best single and best video – both of which are decided by a public vote.
Coldplay could make Brit Awards history if they are successful in the categories for which they have been nominated, with the most ever wins for British group and British album.
While Ant said, “No one turns around and goes, ‘We hate her because of that.’ We all kinda go, ‘Yeah, you’re quite cool”.
In addition to the performances, the Brits have confirmed there will be a tribute to honour music icon David Bowie, who died on 10 January.
Last year the 28-year-old “Diamonds” hitmaker cancelled on the Brit Awards just 24 hours before the event.
“We want to mark it in a respectful way, rather than setting off fireworks or whatever”.
“I felt very disappointed, I wasn’t angry”, he told BBC Radio 1. Other nominations include One Direction for “Drag Me Down”, Sam Smith for “Writing’s On The Wall”, and Years & Years for “King”.
Ant added: “But there are a lot of good people out there who could do it, Nick Grimshaw would be good at it. Dermot O’Leary is a great host”.
