Aston Martin To Open New Factory In Wales
The all-new Aston Martin DBX crossover will be built at a second production plant in St Athan, Wales.
James Bond’s favourite auto brand Aston Martin is creating up to 1,000 jobs in the United Kingdom as part of plans to create a new factory in St Athan, Glamorgan and ramp up its existing hub at Gaydon, Warwickshire.
“The fact that a global vehicle manufacturer has announced it has picked Wales out of 20 other worldwide locations really debunks the threats coming from the Remain campaign that big business will flee our shores were we to leave the EU”.
LONDON (AP) – The legendary sports auto maker Aston Martin has announced plans to open a new factory in Wales that will provide more than 750 jobs.
To safeguard its independence, Aston Martin is seeking to more than double annual sales to above a former peak of about 7,500 vehicles from 3,500 past year.
At the company’s headquarters in Gaydon the Aston Martin DB11, successor in production to the DB9, will be made with one of the most powerful V12 engines around.
“As a great British company”, explains Palmer, “we look forward to St Athan joining Gaydon as our second centre of hand-crafted manufacturing excellence”.
The Welsh first minister, Carwyn Jones, said: “I am delighted to officially welcome Aston Martin to Wales”.
Construction of the 90-acre facility will begin in 2017, and cars are expected to go into production in 2020.
He said: “We will work together in building on the strong foundations of our partnership to nurture a prosperous and rewarding future for this iconic company and its skilled workforce in Wales”.
Aston Martin has been teasing on the idea of producing their first ever crossover since the past year or so and now, we are finally able to see some development on the vehicle’s production.
Aston Martin competes with Ferrari, Lamborghini, Jaguar and others in the luxury sports auto market, a sector that has been growing in recent years. Aston Martin’s CEO even called it an “obvious choice.”
However, Prime Minister David Cameron said the commitment to the West Midlands was good news for the region.
