‘Looked upon with awe’: Sen. Reid endorses Clinton
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid is endorsing Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination.
According to CNN, Reid called Sanders to tell him about the endorsement beforehand.
“My work with her over the years has been something I have looked upon with awe”, Reid said. “I also think that she’s the woman to be the first president of the United States that’s a female”.
Voter turnout at Las Vegas’s casinos was impressive in part from the union leader getting his members out to vote, and Clinton roared to a victory in Clark County, which is home to Las Vegas.
Reid is a superdelegate, which means that Clinton’s advantage over Bernie Sanders in the total delegate race will tick up by one as a result of Reid’s backing. Harry Reid was playing the long game, and now that Nevada is sealed up (and firmly in the Clinton win column), he’s able to come right out and endorse Clinton for President.
Perhaps after receiving some negative feedback from those in his party, Reid took to the senate floor a short time later to state that “Donald Trump has proven over and over again that he is a hateful demagogue, who would do immeasurable damage to our country, if elected”. “When she was the first lady, she started the trend toward doing something about health care”. Reid did not ask Sanders to drop out of the race.
Reid said Sanders was “so magnanimous, so kind and courteous”, and described it as a “call of friendship”.
Clinton now has the public support of at least 40 Democratic Senators, while Sanders has yet to receive an endorsement from any of his fellow Senators.
The endorsement is the highest-ranking Democrat to throw their support behind Clinton.
