Dr. Marty Kaufman’s team analyzed Flint’s hand-written records, paper maps, and scanned images to create a digital database of pipes in the city. Another 15,000 connect to vacant properties.
“The people of Flint have suffered long enough”, she said.
“If the state and federal governments won’t pay to restore safe drinking water and dignity to the people of my city, I may have to go on national TV and crowdsource the funding on the Internet”, Weaver said.
Bullock said his goal for the Snyder recall effort is one million signatures, since a certain number of the signatures collected are sure to be rejected, he said.
“Our plan is to provide credits, covering the cost of water used for drinking, cooking and bathing”, Snyder said in a statement. The decision to not apply corrosion control – now seen as a critical mistake – allowed lead to be scraped from aging pipes into drinking water.
Later Monday, Snyder told The Detroit News editorial board that his office would make public executive office emails “relatively soon” once lawyers remove correspondence that would be exempt if his office were subject to the Freedom of Information Act.
The state is providing bottled water and filters to residents and recently awarded a $500,000 contract to Rowe Professional Services of Flint to study the city’s underground infrastructure for potential pipe replacement.
