Sanjay Dutt released from Yerawada Jail
Present to receive him outside the YCJ were his wife Manyata aand their children, sister and ex-MP Priya Dutt and her family, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, his lawyers, thousands of fans and a huge media contingent from across India and overseas.
Before boarding a chartered flight to Mumbai, Sanjay, who was welcomed by a surge of fans here, told the media: “There is no easy road to freedom”.
Mother’s grave: After Siddhivinayak, the actor is planning to head to Marine Lines to seek blessings at his mother’s grave. Actor Sanjay full sentence period would have ended in November this year, but after being granted remission of seven days per month, his date of release was set for Thursday, February 25. The actor, who was convicted for the possession of illegal arms, was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case. “I’m sure he’ll come back and rock it. I look forward to his biopic and also to starting Munna Bhai 3 with him very soon”.
The PIL filed by social activist Pradeep Bhalekar urges the High Court to cancel the government’s decision granting the remission and to order the actor to be taken into custody again to serve his entire five-year sentence imposed on him by the apex court.
Dutt was found guilty of possession of an automatic rifle and a pistol, which he insisted were only meant to protect his family in the tense atmosphere in Mumbai following the mosque’s destruction.
Pune: Sanjay Dutt walked out of jail today, eight months early, for good behaviour. In 2013, the Supreme Court upheld his conviction but reduced his sentence to five years.
Dutt is expected to be out of the jail by tomorrow afternoon after completing the mandatory paper work. He is looking forward to coming back to work.
The salary has been calculated after excluding 256 days of leave on parole and furlough granted by the Pune divisional commissioner and deputy inspector general (western region) of the prisons department on numerous occasions since 2013, officials said.
Also, a photo of his late actor-politician father Sunil Dutt was put up at the gate of his building “Imperial Heights” along with a message that read – “Dutt Sahab Amar Rahe”.
