Halo 5 Hammer Storm update out now, co-op Warzone Firefight mode inbound
For purists, the biggest news is probably Torque, a new symmetrical map designed for Capture the Flag and Assault.
Microsoft and 343 Industries have confirmed the launch of Hammer Storm, the latest free content pack for Halo 5: Guardians. The new “ball” mechanic that powers the Assault and Grifball modes unlocks the potential for entirely new game types in Forge mode, not to mention paving the way for returning favorites like Oddball and Ricochet. In terms of all new content, the Torque map was added to Arena multiplayer modes. Developer 343 Industries teased the mode in a new trailer and on the Xbox website.
343 Industries has done a good job of keeping players in the Halo experience by releasing FREE DLCs on a, relatively, continuous basis. It’s unknown if the developer will continue to support the game with new content past this point, but it previously pledged support for into summer 2016.
We now have actual footage of Halo 5 Grifball in action.
For those who aren’t familiar, Firefight is Halo’s spin on co-op Horde mode made popular by Gears of War and other games. Halo: Combat Evolved players will be please to see the classic Pistol make its return, complete with original headshot animation.
The update also adds new REQ items such as attachments for loadout weapons, weapon skins, armours, emblems, assassinations, visors and stances.
Firefight is making its return to Halo with “Warzone Firefight” in Halo 5. Grifball is a sportsy, hammer-meets-sword mode, Assault has been fully updated for Halo 5: Guardians, and Fiesta is as light-hearted as weapon roulette can get. The PvE mode which first appeared in Halo 3: ODST has historically sent increasingly hard waves of enemies at players, but that may not be the case here. This time around though, the entire gameplay for the mode will be different as Halo 5 incorporates movement techniques that are much faster and erratic as compared to previous installments in the franchise.
“That’s all we’ll say for now, but trust us, we can’t wait to tell you more about Warzone Firefight in the coming months”.
