Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda in talks to star in Mary Poppins sequel

Miranda has already established a relationship with the studio having composed original music for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS.

The two hour showcase saw a host of artists pay tribute to a string of famous Disney classics.

Variety reports exclusively that HAMILTON’s star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is now in discussions to star in Disney’s upcoming sequel to the beloved film MARY POPPINS.

Best known for stage show Hamilton, Miranda has opened talks with the House of Mouse to join the long-rumored sequel as Jack, a lamplighter that is essentially a modern incarnation of Van Dyke’s Bert. Emily Blunt (Sicario) is the Mouse House’s planned titular “practical ideal in every way” nanny. As before, Mary Poppins is based on P.L. Travers’ immortal book series- the 2013 film Saving Mr. Banks chronicled the anxiety on both Travers and Walt Disney to get the 1964 made at all. Rob Marshall is attached to direct, with Marc Platt and John DeLuca producing.

Set 20 years after the events of the original movie, the as-yet-untitled project chronicle Mary’s return to the Banks family to help them overcome a tragedy, and Jack is there to assist her.

The New York-born heartthrob stars as Alexander Hamilton in Broadway’s Hamilton, which he also created and wrote the music and lyrics for.
