Woman bites rare pearl while dining at Italian restaurant
A Washington state woman made an interesting discovery while eating at a restaurant.
She looked and saw what appeared to be a purple pearl, and initially thought it was someone’s earring.
‘I ordered a seafood dish that was clams and mussels with linguine in a white-wine and lemon sauce, ‘ Hasz told the Seattle Times. Midway through tucking into the pasta, she bit down onto a hard foreign object, which almost broke her tooth.
“It was quite jarring”, Hasz said, according to Komo News. “It was pretty dark in the restaurant, so it was hard to tell what it was, but when I looked at it closer, it looked totally round and flawless”.
Hasz did not complain but instead went home and did some research.
She took it to a gemologist, who determined it was a Quahog purple pearl worth about $600.
“I have only had a few occurrence of pearls coming in under this scenario in 35 years of appraising and this was the first of what I would call a gem quality”, said Irwin.
A diner in Washington has joined one of the most exclusive clubs in the world after unearthing a “one in a couple million” pearl in her seafood pasta.
“This is so insane, the initial story is insane and this is even crazier that this is a really a rare pearl that I found”, added Hasz.
Ted Irwin, president of the Northwest Geological Laboratory and director of the Northwest Geological Institute, evaluated the pearl at $600 in today’s marketplace.
‘It shows we serve nothing but the best, ‘ Cindy Nardone told the Issaquah Press.
Hasz said when she told the restaurant owners – Fernando and Cindy Nardone – of Irwin’s findings, they were “so excited”.
