Vice President Joe Biden to Introduce Lady Gaga at Oscars 2016
Last year, Lady Gaga floored global audiences with a stirring Sound of Music medley at the Academy Awards.
Gaga has been nominated together with Diane Warren for the song Till It Happens to You, which deals with campus rape. “Till it Happens to You” was featured in Kirby Dick’s documentary feature The Hunting Ground. In a recent interview with Deadline, the explained how the nomination helped open up dialogue about rape and why it caused her to relive her own sexual assault.
The creative team staged a performance and made a video of iconic characters like Maria, the children and Captain von Trapp performing songs about love, fame and disco sticks. “I got on a plane and we went into the studio”. Now the issue has the media talking about it, hopefully in a way I believe it deserves to be talked about.
She said both herself and Gaga were receiving a “crazy number” of letters and emails from people “saying thank you for saving my life”.
She said: “May the best song win”. They’re up against The Weeknd (“Earned It” from “Fifty Shades of Grey”), Sam Smith (“Writing’s on the Wall” from “Spectre”), David Lang (“Simple Song #3” from “Youth”), and J. Ralph and Anohni (“Manta Ray” from “Racing Extinction”). Chris Rockwill host the ceremony, which will air live from coast to coast on ABC, beginning 8:30 p.m. Eastern time.
