Sony Xperia X, XA, & Z Didn’t Make Much Of A Splash
It comes with a higher-tier version called the Sony Xperia X Performance and another with lower specifications called the Sony Xperia X. Both devices have 5.0-inch screens with IPS LCD capacitive display at 1080×1920 pixel resolution. There’s no significant change on the look and feel of the new Xperia phones but at least hardware and specs have improved.
After much rumor and speculation floating around over the last couple of days, Sony has now confirmed in a statement that its Z series of flagship smartphones is now dead.
Sony surprised all at the MWC by launching a new comprehensive Xperia X range of phones as it looks to consolidate its mobile business while maximizing profits. However, the industry follower added that while the Z series stops with the Xperia Z5 lineup, it seems that the new Xperia X flagship is what fans expected the Xperia Z6 to be.
Perhaps Sony is so stoked with the new X series that it is willing to take both the flack and a bath on the Z series.
Sony has a lot of “Z” phones. Right now, the phones available in the Z series include Z5, Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium.
The Xperia XA on the other hand boasts of an edge-to-edge HD display and features more modest internals, including a MediaTek MT6755 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of in-buit storage. The device will be running on a Snapdragon 820 chipset with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage.
For its design, the Sony Xperia X Performance has a metal body, which is polished like that of the Xperia Z5. Prices mentioned stand at €599 for the Xperia X and €299 for the Xperia XA. Today, they officially announced that the Xperia Z series is completely defunct. The comparison is mostly based on aesthetics, as performance is yet to be evaluated for the Sony Xperia X Performance. And while its 23 megapixel rear camera and 13 megapixel front-facing camera sound impressive, they’re also the same sensors we got a year ago. The XA is an entry-level smartphone, the X is the mid level and the X Performance is the top of line variant.
PCMag Asia detailed that the three devices appear to be standard smartphone offerings from the Japanese brand but what makes them unique is that they have been created with a greater emphasis on camera and battery performance. You will be able to purchase one in June, but Sony hasn’t revealed the pricing yet.
