JK Simmons joins Mark Wahlberg in Boston Marathon Bombing movie
He’s cast as a Boston officer who was in command at the finish line when the bombs went off in 2013.
Location managers had been in touch with Watertown residents to discuss the filming of “Patriots Day”, starring Mark Wahlberg.
Producers of a Mark Wahlberg movie about the deadly Boston Marathon bombing won’t be recreating the police shootout with the Tsarnaev brothers in the neighborhood where it happened. Meanwhile the Jake Gyllenhaal film Stronger is described as “A victim of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 helps the police track down the killers while struggling to recover from devastating trauma”.
“They made it clear to the neighbors there was no pressure at all, we have alternative plans”, Deveau said.
Driscoll said in his announcement that filming in Watertown would not be in the best interest of its residents, the Watertown News said.
Wahlberg, who is also a producer on the movie, will take on the lead role as a Boston Police Department officer.
CBS Films had originally hoped to film the scene at the intersection of Dexter Avenue and Laurel Street in Watertown, where the firefight occurred three years ago. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR’ tsahr-NEYE’-ehv) was caught, tried and sentenced to death. He told the Herald this week he did not want the movie filmed on his property.
The film will begin production in Boston next month.
