Russian fans present DiCaprio with a homemade Oscar
“The Big Short” is expected to win the former category and “Spotlight” is favored in the latter; if either one of them is upset by something else, it’ll be a real sign that that film is essentially out of the running in the Best Picture race.
There’s not too much plot to go over, but if you’re looking for the best special effects of the year, go rent “Fury Road” and grab a can of silver spray paint. (The Martian, say, with a brother on another planet.) The glaringly obvious melanin deficit in performance categories over the past two years has led even the hidebound academy to start seriously rethinking the rules that govern its members’ eligibility to vote.
By his fourth acting nomination, it seemed as if fate was coming up with more creative ways to pass DiCaprio up, as his Wolf of Wall Street co-star, Matthew McConaughey, beat him with his performance in Dallas Buyers Club.
“I know people in the past who were well-known character actors who were nominated and didn’t work for a year”, Angellotti said.
But, in my opinion, the best picture Oscar will probably go to The Revenant, which has really stood out from the rest.
He may be sick and exhausted of mother****** snakes on that mother****** plane, but Samuel L. Jackson might even be more exhausted with coming a stone’s throw away from securing an Academy Award. Steve Jobs’ Michael Fassbender got 9%, The Danish Girl’s Eddie Redmayne snagged 5% and Trumbo’s Bryan Cranston had 4%. Will this finally be the year that Leonardo DiCaprio takes home a piece of hardware?
“‘The Revenant’ was a wonderful film and the visual effects they had were very good and it was emotional”, he said.
A still from The Wolf of Wall Street.
The negative emotions associated with the injustices highlighted in 12 Years A Slave, awarded best picture in 2014, resonated with audience and critics alike, the study shows. But this time also the losing spree continued and he was left just as a nominee at the Oscars.
DiCaprio has been nominated for his role of bear battling fur trapper Hugh Glass in the film and he might taste the joy of winning an Oscar for the first time. And judging from the heroic and back-breaking feats of image capturing (with only natural light!) that he did on The Revenant, plus his wins at pre-Oscars award shows like the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) awards (his third in a row) and at the BAFTAs, the award is clearly his to lose.
Leo’s four previous acting losses have so unnerved his legion of fans that Russian women have reportedly been melting down their jewelry so they can present him with their own faux Oscar this year in case the academy doesn’t come through. What, however, we can tell is that Oscar or not, Leo will remain one of the greatest actors to have emerged from Hollywood.
