Five People Dead, Including Shooter, After SWAT Standoff In Belfair, Deputies Say
One of the bodies was the shooter, who shot himself in front of deputies, said Mason County Sheriff Casey Salisbury.
The newspaper reported that a SWAT team eventually entered the home and found four people dead.
Negotiators are speaking with the armed man as deputies try to confirm there are shooting victims in the home and capture him, Spurling said.
The gunman called 911 from the home near the town of Belfair, which is across Puget Sound from Seattle, police said.
Authorities later confirmed that he had fatally shot himself and four other people were found dead, The Seattle Times reported.
The scene was reportedly secured after police spent hours negotiating with the suspect in a standoff.
The gunman ended up shooting himself, police said.
Officials have not released the identities of the four victims.
A 12-year-old girl, believed to be the shooter’s daughter, survived the carnage. “It’s a awful tragedy”, Salisbury told the Seattle Times.
In the dark, he said, he “assumed they were target shooting, which they had a tendency to do once in awhile”. Just last night three people were killed and 14 people were injured in a Kansas factory shooting. Pigott said the woman had been previously married and that during that marriage she adopted two teenage boys from Russian Federation and a girl from China.
The SWAT team went in around 12:30 p.m., Spurling said. They searched 11 buildings on the property.
This is a breaking news and developing story.
