Army Gen Sharif meets Italian military leadership

General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), visited Italy’s Army Headquarters on Tuesday and held meetings with Italy’s military leadership.

Upon his arrival, the COAS was presented guard of honor by a smartly turned out contingent of Italian army.

Italian Army Chief thanked Pakistan Army for its sacrifices/role in securing the region.

Addressing a gathering at Centre of global Studies in Rome, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday stated that Pakistan made sincerest effort for Afghan reconciliation process, DG ISPR Major General Asim Bajwa reported.

General Raheel said terrorists won’t be allowed to re-establish. General Sharif said enemies of Pakistan were carrying out acts of terrorism to destabilize it. The Italian foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s positive role for regional security and stability.

COAS also met with Italy’s Minister of foreign Affairs Paolo Gentiloni and held detailed discussions on regional peace and security.

Army chief also visited Italian armed headquarters and was given briefing about weapon systems, training and doctrine, said ISPR.

The army chief said that Pakistan is making honest efforts for reconciliation but there is need to beware of detractors and spoilers who challenge both Pakistan and Afghanistan.
