Kane and Dembele ruled out of Fiorentina clash
Tottenham Hotspur will not prioritise the Premier League over the Europa League says Mauricio Pochettino.
Alli is enjoying a breakthrough season with Spurs, helping to power the club’s Premier League title push and also making England boss Roy Hodgson drool at his potential ahead of Euro 2016 this coming summer.
Last season, Tottenham picked up an average of 1.44 points per game after Europa League ties compared to the 1.68 ppg they managed across the course of the campaign.
“Our supporters might believe the Premier League is more important”.
“I think last season we showed glimpses of the way we were going about it and this season we’ve kicked on again”.
That said, Spurs are unbeaten in eight European home games (W6 D2) since a 3-1 loss to SL Benfica in the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League round of 16 and have only lost one of their last three round of 32 ties. Besides, if you’re in an worldwide competition, don’t you want to beat the best teams to win it? I’ve not played many games so I feel fresh, I feel good so hopefully I can make an impact.
– Swansea City have collected just 0.22 points per game on average in the Premier League against Tottenham; fewer than against any other opponent in the competition.
Pochettino confirmed on Wednesday he would not risk playing Harry Kane in the contest as the striker continues to recover from a broken nose he sustained against Crystal Palace last weekend. We were tipped to go down from when we were in the Championship and I think it’s only this year we were not.
“Harry Kane will be available for Sunday”, Pochettino said. The former MK Dons player just keeps impressing for Spurs as the season progresses.
“What we require is a game where we’re at our very best and at our best level of intensity”.
Swansea, meanwhile, travel to north London on the back of their first defeat under new head coach Francesco Guidolin. “I think with me doing that, the worldwide scene will take care of itself, whatever happens, but my focus was exclusively on Tottenham [when I was injured]”.
Tottenham face a crucial period starting with Thursday’s match at home to Fiorentina, who they drew with 1-1 away.
