Stand-off as inmates climb onto roof of Cloverhill Prison
A spokesman for the service said two men scaled a wall to take the protest to the roof.
It’s believed that several inmates are staging a roof-top protest while around 60 other prisoners are refusing to leave the prison yard.
It’s understood prison authorities are now assembling riot control teams with the intention of entering the yard and quelling the disturbances.
There are 10 ringleaders driving the protest and two of the protesters have managed to climb onto the roof of the prison.
A protest is ongoing at the prison in Clondalkin.
Apart from all prisoners being locked into their cells, the incident has also impacted on visits and escorts to court appearances and medical appointments.
It was not immediately clear why the prisoners were protesting.
A spokesperson for the Irish Prison Service said management at the prison expect to solve the situation swiftly.
