Blues acquire goalie Nilsson from Edmonton
The St. Louis Blues have acquired goaltender Anders Nilsson from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for goaltender Niklas Lundstrom and a 2016 fifth-round draft pick. Simultaneous with that, the Oilers AHL affiliate in Bakersfield changed their mind about starting Laurent Brossoit, who would be the recall when Nilsson is shipped out. The Blues will leave the starting role with Jake Allen, after losing Brian Elliot to injury. 900 save percentage in his career and still has to fine-tune his game as someone who’s only been in the league for two years. They play the Flyers and Blue Jackets in a back-to-back.
He also played for Sweden in the 2013 World Junior Championship.
Lundstrom, 23, has appeared in four AHL games with Chicago this season, going 1-1-0 with a 2.75 GAA and a. 901 save percentage.
The Oilers, still mulling over trade proposals for defenceman Justin Schultz and winger Teddy Purcell-both scratched from road games in LA and Anaheim to guard against injury-now have two fifth-round picks in this June’s draft as well as single choices in the other six rounds. Forsberg has also enjoyed success against the Blues with 4 goals and 5 assists in 10 games.
As reported yesterday, the Edmonton Oilers were in works with the St. Louis Blues, a deal that would include Anders Nilsson, who was supposed to start yesterday but was then taken back as a back-up. In the previous 3 games they averaged 2 goals per game and went 3-0.
Nilsson played in 26 games and started 24 with a record of 10-12-2 with the Oilers. He signed a one-year free-agent contract last summer after he’d starred in the KHL last season.
