Clear The Decks: Schultz, Purcell and Nilson all traded by Edmonton Oilers
Schultz, 25, is making $3.9 million dollars this season The Penguins said the Oilers would retain 50 percent of the salary for the pending unrestricted free agent.
The trading continues today as the Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired defenseman Justin Schultz from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a 3rd round draft pick in 2016.
In other news, Florida’s trade for Jakub Kindl is now official, with a 6th round pick going to Detroit, and Florida’s trade for Teddy Purcell is being held up because the third round pick they traded to Edmonton for him already belongs to New Jersey. He had 101 points in 248 games with Edmonton.
Florida and Los Angeles are the most likely landing spots for Purcell, McKenzie claims. He’s posted 11 goals and 32 points this season, with the Oilers supposedly seeking a second round pick.
The Blues needed a goalie because Brian Elliott is hurt and Nilsson, after a torrid November when he put in some excellent work when Cam Talbot was struggling, hadn’t recovered that form.
Lundstrom, 23, has appeared in 13 games with the ECHL Elmira Jackets with a 2.92 average and. 901 save percentage. He’ll be reporting to Bakersfield to play with Eetu Laurikainen.
Last summer, Schultz represented Canada at the World Championship, where he made four assists in eight games.
