Plunkett replaces injured Finn in England World T20 squad
Pace bowler Steven Finn has been ruled out of England’s ICC World Twenty20 squad and replaced by Liam Plunkett.
Some of the pitches in India are flat and Finn then would offer a lot, but now that can’t happen which is a big blow.
Finn has been withdrawn from the England squad for next month’s marquee tournament after failing to recover from a left calf strain.
Finn had been expected to be fit for the World T20 after missing the fourth Test and one-day and T20 series with South Africa because of a side strain.
But it’s not all bad news for England with Finn’s replacement Plunkett considered unfortunate not to have been included in the original squad of 15 after strong recent performances.
Plunkett last played a T20I series against Pakistan in UAE a year ago.
Plunkett will now form England’s pace options for the tournament alongside David Willey, Reece Topley, Chris Jordan and Ben Stokes.
Finn took to Twitter to express his disappointment.
“Good luck to the guys out there!”
“Really disappointed to have picked up another injury on my road to recovery”, Finn tweeted.
He takes a Test wicket every 47 balls in Tests – second only to Frank Tyson of England bowlers since the First World War – and every 17 balls in T20.
However, for Plunkett, Finn’s injury came as a blessing in disguise.
England, champions in 2010, head out to India on March 8 and will face Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies and a qualifier in the group stage of the competition.
