MN man surrenders after armed standoff
According to a release issued by the sheriff’s office, the man requested assistance and the call was perceived to be a medical.
A Beltrami County man suffering from Lyme disease is arrested after holding his girlfriend hostage in a five hour standoff.
Later Sunday morning, around 10:40 a.m. the man called 911 and was “speaking gibberish”, according to the release. Arrangements were made for the girlfriend to leave so the man could go to sleep.
The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office says a 20-year-old man died when his auto overturned near Bemidji this past weekend.
But four hours later the man again called 911 threatening to harm himself with a hand gun.
Eventually, through planning and coordination the female hostage was able to make an escape from a second story window with the use of a fire ladder.
The 76 year old man left the home a few minutes later and was taken into custody and given a mental health evaluation.
Beltrami County Deputies, Minnesota State Troopers, the Headwater SWAT team and special agents from the Minnesota BCA responded and set up a perimeter near the home.
