Fugitive’s role in horror film leads to his arrest
A fugitive has been arrested after federal agents saw his photo in a Washington state newspaper that ran a story about a low-budget horror movie.
Agents were able to track him down after seeing his picture in a newspaper article about the low-budget horror movie “Marla Mae“, in which he has a leading role. The Olympian ran a feature story Friday with photos of Stange on the film set in Olympia.
Stange was sentenced in 2006 to 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release after pleading guilty to armed bank robbery. However, a federal probation violation warrant was issued after Stange disappeared from the halfway house in July 2014.
Brandon Roberts, the film’s producer, said he did not know Stange was a fugitive and that he would not have cast him if he had known about his past.
Marshals tracked him from a filming location to a store in Olympia, where he was arrested without incident on Friday, he said. Stange, who is credited under the stage name Jason odd on the movie’s IMDb page, was stopped by the authorities after leaving the set to buy cigarettes. The robber-turned-actor was playing the role of Dr. Lourdes, a demented Planned Parenthood physician, according to the film’s site. Everyone really liked him a lot.’.
Marla Mae’s writer and director, Lisa van Dam-Bates, has previously called the movie “chick-flick horror”.
‘In this film Marla is dealt hardships, but instead of cowering under her circumstances, she rises to the challenges and conquers them.
And, apparently, having a lead character arrested in costume won’t stop the film’s release either…
