‘Fifty Shades’ dominates Razzies with 5 awards
The Razzies were created in 1980 as an antidote to Hollywood’s star-studded, back-slapping annual awards season, which climaxes tomorrow with the 88th Oscars. There was a tie for Worst Picture of the Year, though, as Fantastic Four and Fifty Shades of Grey shared the honor.
Stars rarely go to the actual ceremony to accept their “win” but Halle Berry famously went in 2004 and jokingly thanked the voters for recognizing her worst actress work in “Catwoman”.
The winners of the 36th annual Razzies were announced Saturday at the Palace Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, across town from the Dolby Theater where the 88th annual Academy Awards will be presented Sunday.
Jamie Dornan won the award for Worst Actor for his stiff performance in “Fifty Shades of Grey” and his co-star Dakota Johnson won the prize for Worst Actress.
Tyler Hoechlin is the latest actor to join the cast of “Fifty Shades Darker”, the sequel to “Fifty Shades of Grey”.
This year two movies got a Razzie for Worst Movie.
Superhero flop Fantastic Four picked up the worst remake, rip-off or sequel and its director Josh Trank scored the worst director award.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, both movies solidified their worst-of-the-worst awards. The other actors up against Jamie Dornan for the title of worst actor in 2015 were Johnny Depp from Mortdecai, Kevin James from Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, Adam Sandler from The Cobbler and Pixels, and Channing Tatum from Jupiter Ascending.
Eddie Redmayne – who is also nominated for an Oscar this year for The Danish Girl – was given the worst supporting actor award for his role in Jupiter Ascending. Oscar favorite Sylvester Stallone won that honour for “Creed”.
Few winners actually appear to collect their awards, which are selected by 943 voting jury members who pay a small fee to participate in the fun.
