Trump wins Nevada Republican caucuses: US networks
Tuesday’s caucus in Nevada has been called in favor of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, with the state’s Republican party website declaring the contest for Trump with just shy of 44 percent of the vote.
Nevada was a critical test for Rubio and Cruz, the two senators battling to emerge as the clear alternative to the GOP front-runner.
By then, the Republican nomination process will be nearly one-third over.
As of early Wednesday morning, Trump had 45 percent of the vote, well ahead of second-place finisher Marco Rubio with 24 percent.
“This is an incredible night”.
Co-host Ashley Earhardt asked Rubio if he needs to start winning primaries in order to win the nomination.
For Mr. Trump, the outcome in Nevada is another sign of his campaign’s durability and the breadth of his appeal: He has now handily won primary elections in New England and in the South, and a caucus fight in the far West. He won over independent voters in New Hampshire and evangelicals in sc, and prevailed in Nevada, where Mormon voters and rural activists wield influence. Overall, Trump has 81 delegates so far, and Cruz and Rubio have 17 apiece. With all caucus votes in, Rubio had 23.9 percent to Cruz’s 21.4 percent, according to the Associated Press. Among those who cared most about terrorism, about a third supported Trump and a third supported Rubio.
Cruz, a conservative popular among voters on the GOP’s right, finished a disappointing third in SC after spending much of the past two weeks denying charges of dishonest campaign tactics and defending his integrity.
“We will win in Florida”, he said, noting that his prospects were boosted there since former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush dropped out of the presidential race. We won with old.
“At this point, we’ve had four primaries”, Cruz said. “I love this place, I love this state, I love Las Vegas”. “We’re the most loyal people”.
Trump’s finish may have been most damaging for Cruz, who fired his top spokesman Monday for spreading a video that misrepresented comments Rubio made about the Bible.
A host of senators and members of Congress and a few governors have thrown their support to Rubio in recent days.
“We are doing very well in Ohio”. John Kasich. He’s hardly a powerhouse.
“It’s going to be an awesome two months”, he said.
“Because we need change and we need Trump, we really do”, said one Caucus goer.
“It is hard for me to turn down money, because that’s what I have done my whole life…Grab, grab and grab”. Now I will tell you what I am going to do.
“Make sure you get on the Trump line and are not misled by the Cruz people”, he wrote.
On Tuesday night, the Nevada Republican Caucus welcomed Donald Trump as he scored a 46 percent victory. The same number of voters said they were angry at how the federal government operates.
