Salt Lake City police battle rock-throwers after shooting
The victim’s friend Selam Mohammad told the Tribune that he was approached by a man on the street.
The victim was taken to a hospital, the Tribune reported.
Mohammad said that the teenager was hit in the chest and stomach.
Witnesses felt the police did not give the teen a chance to surrender, and used excessive force, leading to public outrage.
“As soon as we was running he was already grabbing for his gun. He said “Drop it” [then] ‘Boom, boom!’ four times”.
Police confirmed that at least two officers were involved in a shooting and a suspect was attacked, KUTV.com reported.
Angry protests erupted in Salt Lake City overnight following a police-involved shooting, according to authorities. The road was shut down from 600 West to 400 West and police closed a light rail stop in the neighborhood.
Police detained multiple people, but Wilking could not elaborate on the reason for the detentions.
There are a number of homeless shelters in the neighborhood, and business owners have long complained about the homeless population and drug dealing, the Tribune said. They did not explain how that is relevant to this story, however.

A newly sworn-in police officer on her first shift with her Virginia department was shot and killed Saturday and two of her colleagues were wounded in a confrontation stemming from a call about an argument. The officers “tried to engage altercation”, the tweet says.
“It was a very active scene for the officers involved down there”. They needed other officers to respond. “Very upset…people are emotional right now”, he added.
