With big win, Clinton heads to Super Tuesday with momentum
Republicans share a palpable fear that Trump would alienate Hispanics, minorities, independents and women, driving them to vote Democratic in November and costing the GOP the presidency, its Senate majority and suddenly competitive House seats.
Cruz and Marco Rubio are the leading contenders trying to slow down Trump.
From the lectern, Trump showed off a water bottle, reminiscent of the one the Florida senator grabbed during his 2013 State of the Union response.
King also said Rubio’s poor debate performance in New Hampshire, where former GOP rival Chris Christie blasted him for repeating phrases, has become a distant memory. However, Christie lost the Granite State after a pro-Rubio group, Conservative Solutions, released advertising bashing Christie as being President Barack Obama’s “favorite Republican” and attacked him for his stances on Common Core and Obamacare.
“Despite what you hear, we don’t need to make America great again, America has never stopped being great”, she told cheering supporters in Columbia after the win.
‘They do not know the playbook with Donald Trump because he is rewriting the playbook of American politics, ‘ Christie said.
On CNN, Trump explained his own brand of populism.
“Desperate people do desperate things”, Christie said.
“The party cannot be saved, but the country still can be”, he wrote. But the brash billionaire is winning Georgia by 30 percentage points over Cruz and Marco Rubio, who are tied at 23%.
Christie has a long personal relationship with Trump.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stands in front of his airplane as he speaks during a rally Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, in Bentonville, Ark.
Trump branded Rubio a “low life”, “a nasty little guy”, a “basket case” and “a choker” who sweated so much he had to put makeup on with a trowel.
Christie said he plans to help Trump with “whatever he needs” throughout the rest of the campaign.
Trump meanwhile is looking for big wins across the board.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is battling U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont for the Democratic nomination.
Still, even after Super Tuesday, the primary race has a ways to go for both parties before a nominee is decided.
Rubio added on CBS that Trump “is trying to pull off the biggest scam in American political history”. And it is something that at least any one of the two candidates in the Democratic Party have a chance to correct with their choice of vice presidential candidate.
But as establishment Republicans grapple with a creeping sense that Trump’s nomination is nearing inevitability and with donors fretting over Rubio’s failure to notch a single primary win, Rubio pounced. Ted Cruz (Texas) leads in his home state. “I just watched you repeat yourself five times five seconds ago”, Rubio said. As soon as he’s the nominee, they’re going to descend on him like the hounds of hell. But that’s in the past, Doherty said, predicting the state party would get behind Trump.
For Sanders, the roughly 50-point defeat crystalized his weakness with black voters, a crucial segment of the Democratic electorate.
